Les Miles has provided us with plenty of pre-game hype. |
This was the last of their pregame obligations -- one final chance for Miles to deflect a query about whether top-ranked LSU is the favorite to make it to the BCS title NEXT YEAR, one more opportunity for Saban to show he's got a life beyond his stranglehold on the storied program at No. 2 Alabama (turns out he does, if watching the Weather Channel qualifies).
"I'd expect it to be big-boy football," Miles said Sunday during his time on podium.
LSU (13-0) has already put up a body of work that clearly establishes it as the nation's best team. In addition to that Nov. 5 win at Alabama, the Tigers have victories over two other major bowl champions, Rose Bowl winner Oregon and Orange Bowl champ West Virginia. In all, they've knocked off eight teams that were ranked in The Associated Press Top 25, with only three of those games in Baton Rouge.
"The only team I've told them not to schedule is the Green Bay Packers," Miles quipped.
Maybe it's only appropriate for the Tigers to find one more daunting challenge standing in the way of a championship season -- a great team they've already beaten.
"When we take the field, we'll be an emotional, fired-up football team," Miles vowed.
I think Les Miles hit it on the head and then murdered it, especially if he said in in his squinty-eyed George-Bush-sort of style. He took a shot at the rest of college football and definitely got his boys pumped up with some old-fashioned trash talk. While Miles didn't directly insult 'Bama, he certainly let them know that if they don't come out swingin' his boys are gonna knock 'em out. Then of course he went on to make a cocky comment about playing the Green Bay Packers, who actually might not have a good enough defense as LSU. Now, while I do love trash talk, I'm not the biggest fan of Miles. I think that trash talking coaches need to be 100% committed to their pre game words a la Rex Ryan. The LSU coach tries to be both classy and cocky, and it just is an awkward mix. Let your boys' pads do the talking if you're trying to keep your image, Les.
All jokes aside, Miles, is allowed to have the confidence to take a few shots at everyone and their mother. I mean they are still undefeated, already beat the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the nation, and also beat Arkansas, Georgia, West Virginia, and Florida. If LSU can somehow beat Alabama, which I don't think they will, then we'll easily be looking at the greatest undefeated team in the history(in terms of strength of schedule) of college football.
Don't sleep on Alabama just because their coach doesn't run his mouth like Ochocinco. The Tide have two things on their side:
1. They have a better offense. Jordan Jefferson, LSU's explosive player, is half the player Trent Richardson is. Expect Trent Richardson to have an even bigger game, he'll basically running for his NFL future.
2. It'll take a miracle for LSU to beat Alabama again. In the history of football, let alone SEC football, has a team as talented as Alabama ever lost twice? Not that I can think of. If LSU can pull off another victory over 'Bama then you can go ahead and crown them the greatest team ever. Sorry Hurricanes circa 2001.
This SEC/BCS rematch part duex is getting me all types of excited, and I hope you all are equally excited. Expect hard hits, hard hits and well, more hard hits. Big boy football it shall be.
