In today's world we are so prone to overreactions because of the ease with which we get sports analysis. Everyone's got something to say about everything (including myself) and we can access everyone's opinion so quickly and so easily that it's not difficult to overreact to your team every single day. Here we'll try to soften overreactions to each NFL team by giving a more level-headed analysis.
NFC West:
San Francisco 49ers, 11-4-1
Overreaction: "Colin Kaepernick is going to be the best quarterback in the NFL within three years."
Truth: Kaepernick rubbed me the exact same wrong way Johnny Manziel did in college football, I saw him as a flash-in-the-pan guy who would slow down once teams created a real scouting report for him. I was wrong. But what worries me about Kaepernick, like Russ Wilson and RGIII is his penitence to get out and run. That is certainly kosher in college, but this is the NFL. No one wants to see their million dollar future QB go down because he decided to wrongly keep it on a read-option. With that being said, I don't think he can transform into a pocket passer like RGIII can. Kap will be a good quarterback and might even crack the Top-5, but his team is the biggest reason why he's been so successful.
Seattle Seahawks, 11-5
Overreaction: "This team is going to win the Super Bowl next year, we should have won it this year."
Truth: While I actually believe that a comment of that magnitude isn't as much as an overreaction as some of the other ones we've had, it's still hard to say any team is going to win the Super Bowl the next year. All the pieces are there and there isn't much talent they need to re-sign aside from Jason Jones, but they do play in the NFC and you can imagine that the Niners are only going to get better. I absolutely love Russell Wilson but I'm nervous about his size. He likes to move outside of the pocket and while he does the best job of decision making out of the RGIII, Kap read-option style QBs, he's still only 5'11". I'll liken this team as my early Super Bowl favorites for next year as long as they can acquire one play making wide receiver.
St. Louis Rams, 7-8-1
Overreaction: "Time to give up on Sam Bradford, we gave this guy three years and he's proven his ineptitude."
Truth: St. Louis fans, you're right. Bradford should be a goner, but what's out there for you to pick up? Vick just re-signed with the Eagles, not like he was going to fit either way. Alex Smith? His price is pretty high. Ryan Fitzpatrick or Mark Sanchez? I absolutely wouldn't. The draft? Not this year's class and especially not with my first two picks. This situation has put the Rams in a rut and it will probably force them to give Bradford one more chance. I always like him in college, but sometimes it just doesn't work out in the show.
Arizona, 5-11
Overreaction: "I don't even know what to say about this team, we were 4-0 at one point and we finished the last 12 games 1-11...what?"
Truth: I get it, you guys felt like you started 400 different quarterbacks and you might as well have. But things aren't as bad as they seem. The quarterback situation will remain a major issue, but your defense ranked 5th in pass defense last year and has some solid pieces. Daryl Washington is one of the most underrated linebackers in the league and while Calais Campbell didn't have the greatest season he's still a beast. Patrick Peterson is a ball hawk and the duo of Kerry Rhodes and Adrian Wilson proved to be a truly great one. So while this season was a mockery, things are a little bit clearer when you see that you're defense is not that bad going forward.
