Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia, three traditional powerhouses, will depart the Big East next year and the tournament will certainly lose its lust. But this last hoorah is going to be something special for the Big East, a conference most northeastern sports fans keep in a special place in their hearts. The entire tournament is played in Madison Square Garden and this means an serious spectacle. Though this year might be called an "off year" for the Big East, considering the fact they only have five ranked teams, I don't foresee a major drop-off in quality and intense basketball. There just can't be. There is simply no way the Big East will just drift off into the sunset. Will it go out with a bang like the Syracuse, Conneticut six OT thriller a few years ago? No, probably not. But the drama will be extraordinary and so, so real.
For everyone who has enjoyed the Big East Tournament over the past few years, let's make a conscious effort to watch this year's through and through. Enjoy.
Long live the real Big East Tournament
