The Knicks have every right to celebrate Linsanity. |
So the Jeremy Lin phenomena has reached Tebow levels(probably more thanks to the incredible number of asians in the world). My two cents about Lin has been said and re-said by every single analyst on the place of the planet, so I'm going to leave that out of this. However, I will say that all this feel good story is completely and utterly deserved by Knicks fans and their organization.
Since the "championship" years of the early 70s, the New York Knicks have been mired in some sort of predicament each decade. In the late 70s the Knicks relied too heavily on veterans, causing their post-championship teams to be strictly "rebuilding" years. In the 1980s, no one was beating the Celtics. In the 1990s, they were cursed by Michael Jordan, who beat them 5 times in 6 playoff tries. In the 2000s, Isiah Thomas ran the Knicks into the ground, through the crust, mantles and right into the NBA's core where they sat cooking for years. Despite the Knicks franchise being considered "historic" it has gone championship-less in 20 postseason appearances since it's title in '73.The New York Knicks faithful have been waiting years for something good to happen to them, and this time it might have come in the form of a 6'3" asian point guard with surprising confidence and underrated finishing ability.
I have no idea how long this Linderella story will last. It could end tonight. It could never end. He could be the Knicks point guard for years to come. But what it has unlocked is some good karma for the city of New York. For once analysts aren't chiming in on how overrated they think Melo and STAT are, or laughing at the horrendous managerial decisions that plagued the Knicks for the last 10+ years. For once the Knicks are getting positive attention, and they deserve it. I have a good feeling that this is going to last, despite it's unknown expiration date. It's been a long time coming for something good to happen to this franchise, even though James Dolan has tried countless times to sabotage it. This one is fool proof, keep playing him and keep having faith.
If Jeremy Lin has anything close to a repeat performance tonight, expect Madison Square Garden, Twitter and Facebook to explode.
