This dunk got Perkins' teammate Kevin Durant, pretty fired up. |
The Clippers star went down the lane, elevated, made contact with Perkins and then threw the ball down into the basket, the fingers on his outstretched hand grazing the rim. The play has been the talk of the league.
"I have no appreciation for it at all," said Perkins' Thunder teammate, Kevin Durant. "It was a layup, I think. He threw the ball in and got fouled and made his free throw, so it was three points at the end of the day, no matter how it happened, how it went in the basket. I really wasn't impressed. He finished it. So what? We've moved on."
Durant wasn't surprised the play gained so much attention.
"I wasn't surprised because Blake is a poster child," Durant said. "He dunks the ball a lot and makes spectacular plays. If it wasn't against us, maybe I'd say it was a good play, but it was against us, so it was a bad play. I have nothing against Blake, don't get me wrong. But it was against us, so I've got to stick up for my teammate."Ok, KD35, I see you. As wrong as you are, I understand why you said it. You're the man in the West, clearly the best player and Blake Griffin doesn't sniff your skill level. Chris Paul is closer, but CP3 still can't put the ball in the basketball more effectively than you can. Yet KD, we've seen you dunk/layup/throw the ball the hoop before and I'm pretty sure that by your reaction then that you thought it was a dunk. So relax with that, it was most certainly a dunk.
Now a lot of people will take this as a diss to Blake Griffin, but it's not. Durant is simply defending his teammates with a little fire, a la the Bird-Magic days when the two talked and then tried to walk all over each other. The West's best player was being a leader, and I love it. Durant knows that Perkins' career got assaulted on the play, but he won't let the world know it. I'm sick of these NBA players dapping each other up after ridiculous plays. If you get your stuff rocked, then you should be pissed, simple as that. If the Thunder had won the game Durant would have had a less angry reaction, but that wasn't the case, so we get to see the mean side of KD: exciting. Expect the next time the Clip show comes into OKC their gonna get shut down. Durant will probably dropped forty, put DeAndre Jordan on a poster and not say a single word about it.
The NBA might have just found it's freshest rivalry.
