The Saints are a dark horse for Super Bowl Contenders |
New York Giants Division Winner at 9-7.
Dallas Cowboys, 8-8.
Philadelphia Eagles, 6-10.
After another Romo debacle on Sunday Night, the Cowbys pretty much threw themselves into the coffin and somehow nailed it shut themselves. They'll certainly take care of the fading Buccaneers and then step on the Eagles throats, which will set them up nicely for another big fat letdown in the Meadowlands in week 17. The Dream Team, who have absolutely minute hopes, will fade into darkness pretty fast once the red-hot Jets get through with them next week. This whole scenario is going to hold true, barring some ridiculous, yet classic, Giants late season meltdown. I think Eli has finally solidified himself as a 4th quarter threat and that will bode well for the G-Men. Though they'll make the playoffs, I don't think they, or anyone can stop the Jets right now.
NFC North
Green Bay Packers, Division Winner at 15-1.
Detroit Lions, Wild Card Seed 5 at 11-5
Chicago Bears, 9-7
For The Packers own good they'll pack it in week 17 and lose, avoiding the 18-1 syndrome the Pats fell victim to in '07. That will, inevitably secure the 5th seed for the Detroit Lions, who will beat Oakland handily and play an inspiring game at home vs San Diego, in order to set up the week 17 season closing win. The Chicago Bears embarrassed themselves by unintentionally handing the ball over to Jesus Christ for another one his ridiculous wins. They'll take care of Seattle at home, setting up a disappointing loss to the Packers on National Television. The Bears might get lucky and get frat star Matt Flynn slinging the rock in the second half, but the Bears are the Bears, and shatter their own playoff dreams constantly. The Lions defense, combined with Megatron's ability to make game changing plays gives them the edge over the fading Bears, who are without their starting QB Jay Cutler.
NFC South
New Orleans Saints, Division Winner at 12-4
Atlanta Falcons, Wild Card Seed 6 at 11-5
The Saints are the NFL's dark horse for the Super Bowl. Drew Brees is out there abusing the stat sheet with 300 yard/3 TD games at a ridiculous rate. The Falcons, on the other hand, have been on an absolute tear since starting the season at 2-3. I think either NFC South squad could very well upset the heavily favored Packers. Next Monday night's Saints, Falcons game should be phenomenal: high scoring and highly entertaining. Matty Ice has shown, once again, that he is an elite QB in the NFL, but I think Drew Brees is just too unstoppable at this point; the Saints win the showdown and take the division.
NFC West
San Francisco 49ers, Division Winner at 11-5
Seattle Seahwaks, 7-9.
Arizona Cardinals, 7-9.
The NFC produces bad teams like Jim Rome attacks 3 syllable words. Yet, this year, they actually have a pretty viable division winner. But they clinched the division in Week 3, so they've been coasting ever since. I do like the Niners defense, because their captain and MLB Patrick Willis is the best form-tackling linebacker I've ever witnessed. However, I don't think Alex Smith can push this team any further than the first round.
AFC East
New England Patriots, Division Winner at 13-3.
New York Jets, Wild Card Seed 6 at 11-5.
When this season started it seemed as if it was finally going to be the year to watch the New England Patriots fizzle out. Per usual, they did the exact opposite and have been on an absolute tear since that dramatic loss to the Giants in Week 9. The Pats will take care of the Broncos, Dolphins and Bills on their way to another first round bye. The Jets have been on a similar streak after they watched Steve Johnson drop a season crushing ball and were able to have a collective sigh of relief. They're now mashing opponents face in on their way to a third straight playoff berth; the least likely of them all.
AFC North
Pittsburgh Steelers, Division Winner at 13-3
Baltimore Ravens, Wild Card Seed 5 at 12-4
Cincinnati Bengals, 9-7.
The Steelers and Ravens have found themselves in the same late season playoff feud for a decade now. This year will be no different. Pittsburgh, though, has the easier schedule aside from their Week 15 MNF showdown in Candlestick Park vs the 49ers. Watch out for these two to play each other in the AFC Championship game, and you know what that means: trash talk, helmet-to-helmet hits and Hines Ward abusing Ed Reed. The AFC wild-card chasing Bengals had a really nice and surprising season, but there is no way in hell they're going to win out, all while the Jets lose a game or two. Probably karma for all the years when they were hyped up and underperformed. Still have no idea why Marvin Lewis their head coach.
AFC South
Houston Texans, Division Winner at 12-4
Tennessee Titans, 10-6.
I'll tell you what, we'd be looking at a totally different scenario here if #18 for the Colts was dressed like a player and not a coach on game days. But, bygones will be bygones, so the Houston Texans have finally broken through. That's in large part to Wade Phillips hiring as defensive coordinator allowing the Texans to became a defense juggernaut(1st in scoring D, 3rd in yards). Unfortunately for the Texans, they are without Matt Schaub, and that makes them vulnerable in the playoffs. With Schaub and that vaunted defense, they truly would have been a AFC contender. The Titans will win out, but, unfortunately will not see the Jets lose a game. Maybe they should've signed Chris Johnson a little bit earlier to avoid all that playbook preparation nonsense that set CJ28 back about forty years.
AFC West
Denver Broncos, Division Winner at 9-7.
San Diego Chargers, 8-8.
Oakland Raiders, 6-10.
I cannot believe I'm saying it, but Tim Tebow will lead the Denver Broncos into the playoffs. Of course, they'll back into the playoffs, finishing off their last three games at 1-2. If it wasn't for a game against the atrociously bad Buffalo Bills, we'd be looking at a full on choke. The Chargers loss to the Lions in Week 16 will ultimately be their death, and I can't see the Oakland Raiders getting out of their own way for the rest of the season. I'm interested to see if Tebow can do anything in the playoffs. Remember folks, in the playoffs, teams play four quarters, not one.
